Neil’s daily run rate “Hurry up Neil”, announced Nadalia . “Your father will give you a lift to school, he’s leaving in ten minutes flat” “Yes Mum”, checking my cricket kit is all in order, remember that today I am captain for first time” “Good lad”, Kain proudly said to his wife, “I think there is captain material in the boy”. “Well you are not captain material “,Nadalia joked ,”that’s why I lovingly organise you boys in the morning to get to work and school” “Ok dear ,we know who is Boss” ,Kain joyfully conceded. “Were off now mum, “Neil announced holding his huge cricket kit proudly in his left hand. “Do Mr Headmaster ; Siri , proud and beat the Mahali school opposition today” “Don’t forget your food parcels ,you two ,got to keep up your strength “. Remember , any scraps bring back . I am feeding up that Dog from across the road. Mrs. P doesn’t feed him enough good food. Also, ”I am off to see Mrs. Devi in the village, as usual there will be special supper tonight”, she smiled. “Alright Boss understood “Kain teased ,as he and Neil stepped outside into the scorching heat. Dad’s data dream Neil and his father arrived at their destination. The Elephant Tusk Trust School of Excellence, proudly representing the village of Rabana , apparently a rich entrepreneur had set up the school 10 years ago. “OK ,son, do a good captains job for the school, family ,Mr Siri , although most important for your inner character” “Yes of course dad “, Neil confidently announced . “I played at all levels ,when I was about your age ,I was wicketkeeper, because of my size for 11 year old” Kain encouraged his son. “I am sure you was very good dad”, Neil added. “I became a carpenter and stone mason ,like my father and his father,” Kain conceded. “I would like to learn the skills from you.. dad”, as well as playing for the County at cricket” ,he youthfully added. “You can achieve ,all of that and more ,my son” Now on your way”, as he waved Neil goodbye.. “Hello Neil, first one to arrive ,great leadership qualities” Mr Siri acknowledged in his impeccable manner. “Oh.. Hello Mr Siri”, Neil added as he went inside the air conditioned reception area . Storm in a tea cup “Excellent performance lads “Mr Siri, analysed in the changing room of the Mahali sport room. “Although we did not win Sir” Kamal proclaimed with his bat still firmly in his hand. “Can stop their batsman ,although we cannot stop the weather ” Neil comforted to his team mates. “The heavens opened up ,and save them from losing, we respect the weather “Neil added. “Yes you are correct Neil, you lead us well in the field”, offered fast bowler Dinesh, his mate . “Ok lads ,let’s get changed ,go shake hands with Mahali boys, thenback to base for some delicious food” thereby Mr Siri quickly changed the mood of the hungry lads. Later on after Mrs Devi’s delicious food ,Mr Siri took Neil to one side. “I want you to stay captain for the next few games, all the boys are agreed “ “Thank you Sir ,I needed to prove I can be responsible even at my age, not just because you may be favoured me as captain over some of the others” Neil shyly added. “Not at all Neil ,there is no favouritism, only good judgement at this school” Mr Siri firmly nodded. “I have another request for you Neil” “See if you can persuade your kind father to craft a coconut spoon for open day coming up” Mr Siri asked. “We are going to share Mrs Devi’s delicious Special concoction juice in style for all the fine guests coming to visit the school” Mr Siri confirmed. “Of course, Sir ,I will ask father tonight” Neil answered eagerly. “You see Neil, leadership qualities, batsman ,captain and future carpenter” Mr Siri winked with assurance.
