| K is coming …. I arrived at Heathrow 5.40 am after the long flight back from cab driver ,as we took the M25 motorway route back to home. The surrounding fields and farmland looked even more green and pleasant than when I last observed them a month ago. The farm animals were happily munching away on the green of the land. We arrived in Bleakwood by 6.55 am , I saw my wife waiting for me from the balcony. That’s usual £40 the said the driver , who I had know for 15 years , without actually knowing his full name. I went to my wallet in the precious tote bag , rummaged around and found wallet keys and other assorted pieces. The puppet revealed his crooked grin as he flopped his head out of the bag. The driver laughed, he joked ‘I know people to bring back some strange things from Asia, but he’s the cutest of all of them’, just a little something for the wife’s Exotic culture cafe (ECC) . ‘ By the way say hello to your mum, we hope to see her at the ECC next week’. ‘No problem ‘. he replied. ‘Make sure to bring pretty boy along , she will love him’. I gave him a £50 note , with a keep the change confidence – £10 was more useful for him than me !! My wife was excited to see me, as we struggle with one suitcase and flight bag up the cleaner looking stairwell to our flat. What’s in the tote bag, she enquired after all the catching up and excitement had calmed down. ‘Ah just a few items that might come in handy ‘, I teased. The gloves , leather hand bags full of make-up perfumes and other goodies were exactly what she wanted. I was glad , Mr. Ken had pointed me in right direction, and finally I announced in most dramatic style -DE DAH ….a puppet with guitar strings attached. ‘He’s adorable , wow so cute , where did you get him ? how much?’ , a thousand questions… ‘He looks a bit dirty, though ‘she observed. ‘I shall give him a proper spring clean’. The wife gave the scarves a hand wash and put them out to dry. The puppet was well put together the articles of clothing needed care and diligence to take off for a nice clean. The felt hat had several clever stitches binding it to the hair , a few snip and it left the puppet hatless , more straw coloured hair was now revealed , much cleaner from the hat doing its job. The loon pants had a clever imitation belt , which had a buckle and eyelets , they came off relatively easy revealing string joints and hessian bodywork. Now for the shirt, jacket and tie she busied herself with scissors and snips. The jacket again had several stitches immaculately placed , these were also snipped- ‘jacket off’. The tie was well knotted around his thin neck it came off with a little bit of encouragement. The shirt, ghastly colour, stained and grubby came off easy. The stringed here looked anything but, naked hessian, strings, hardwood, joints… The wife put him back into the tote bag to save his blushes. She went to work on the hat , loon pants , shirt , tie and jacket, using damp clothes , delicate sponges, wipes, cotton buds , he was certainly going to look and smell a lot different in the hygiene department. The hat, pants , tie and shirt were put outside to air and dry. The wife was curious and intrigued with the fantastic craftsmanship and tailoring of the red jacket. A closer examination revealed a double maybe even treble lining on the inside and dozens of tiny stitches on the left hand side. ‘fantastic workmanship ‘ she noted. After a bit more examination there appeared to be something extra on the inside a label, she assumed? After several snips, it appear to be some sort of paper item – a note , she guessed. No it was an envelope , carefully folded immaculate condition into quarters. ‘ Wow, what is this ?’ as she carefully unfolded this secret / hidden envelope . The envelope title was, KAWATAYA (I will read your mind) – ‘Wrap a scarf around my neck. I will reveal you story, which you have so preciously kept. Be honest and true , when you come to me . If not, I will expose your weakness for all to see. I exist in your mind eye. I am as real as you need me to be. But heed my warning about lies and truth , I will not let you flee’. The wife folded the notes carefully back in the envelope and placed it in her secret wooden box ; which No one is allowed to open !! What next ?…Who’s scarf ????? © story line by NSW 27th June 2020 |
