Snapshot from the media man (Nobodies Diary)

The conditions were sweltering for the second ‘Exotic Culture Cafe’ . The first task was to get the windows wide open, letting in the busy-sounds of the town centre were a busting backdrop to another eventful , enlightening round of shared stories, values , refreshingly large amounts of empathy and human capital . Of course great food- soup , salad order of a hazy day.

Three subjects of discussion were tentatively used to got the ball rolling A.K.A. ‘Media man’s exotic Cafe prompter’.  The first topic of discussion was eco-friendly carbon footprints revealed that WALKING was important to all participants, especially in group rambling walks and short walks to town instead of using transport were backed up with SWIMMING sessions.  The importance of RECYCLING and interestingly VEGETARIAN food  with its need for green space to grow . Downley  was revealed as a great green space with many flat garden , ironically not on a slope !! It was decided carbon footprints were a fascinating topic, which the WCA will incorporated in its theme of ethics.

After some much needed round of cold drinks , the second subject was more personal and enlightening for the discussion group. Memories from schooldays and the advance of technology on this occasion had FACEBOOK made it possible to get in touch and contact from school friends from Sri Lanka (country of origin ) after many years – treasured memories on-line – a live !!! There was some great memories from some of the gentlemen present of ‘old school’ type teachers and the strict methods used in the past, and how they still all are in close contact with one another.

The third discussions about favourite flowers/ plants revealed a love for PEONIES , ROSES , JASMINE , LOTUS , the BODHI TREE , an ACORN  and the mysterious SHOE FLOWER  which basks in the Californian Sun , or the irony on a day like we were all staying cool with fan working overtime …… On a more poignant note Grenfell tower came into the humanitarian aspects of discussion and a sad reminder of safety being less important than human life.

As always we shared the values of food and its true ability to unite everybody who truly appreciates it essence of life. Asparagus soup, garlic bread and an amazing vegetable salad made from olives, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, celery , peppers and a hint of salad cream were just what a blistering hot day surrounded by friends and companionship needed to put the icing on the cake. !!
